The central government has scheduled an all-party meeting at Parliament today at 6 PM to deliberate on the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Sources have confirmed that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will chair the discussions.
Shiv Sena has confirmed its participation, with MP Shrikant Shinde likely to represent the party at the meeting.
The party, led by Eknath Shinde, issued a statement ahead of the session, expressing solidarity with those affected and affirming its commitment to national unity and security.
The party noted, “Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde will represent the party at the all-party meeting today in New Delhi. In light of the recent developments in Jammu & Kashmir and the ongoing national security concerns, Shrikant Shinde will convey Shiv Sena’s firm stand on national unity, security, and the unwavering support for every citizen affected by the Pahalgam attack.”
Meanwhile, the Janata Dal (United), under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, will not be present at the meeting due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Madhubani, Bihar.
However, the party assured full support to the central government on matters of national interest.
“All top JDU leaders are engaged in the Prime Minister’s program in Madhubani district today, so we are not able to attend the all-party meeting. Whatever decision will be taken in the meeting, JDU will stand with the government decision and support the Government in the country’s interest,” said Sanjay Kumar Jha, JDU’s Working President.
The all-party meeting comes in the wake of a deadly attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow on Tuesday, which targeted tourists, resulting in 28 Indian deaths.
Several others sustained injuries in one of the most severe assaults in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack.
In retaliation, India has taken firm steps against Pakistan over its continued backing of cross-border terrorism.
India Takes Firm Steps Against Pakistan
A Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by Home Minister Amit Shah saw the announcement of multiple counter-measures.
India has decided to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty until Pakistan verifiably halts support for terrorism.
Authorities have closed the Attari Integrated Check Post and cancelled all visas issued under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) to Pakistani nationals.
Additionally, they directed Pakistani nationals in India to leave within 48 hours.
Additionally, India has declared the military, naval, and air advisors stationed at Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi as persona non grata, giving them a week to depart.
In a reciprocal move, Indian defence personnel and five support staff will withdrawn from India’s High Commission in Islamabad.
The total strength of each nation’s diplomatic missions will reduced from 55 to 30 by 1 May 2025.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced these decisions during a press briefing following the CCS meeting.
