Parents of CBSE Class IX students have raised concerns over the revised curriculum, the three-language policy and delays in receiving prescribed NCERT textbooks, adding uncertainty for students navigating an academic transition.
On June 29, the CBSE issued guidelines on the three-language policy and transition arrangements for Classes VII to IX.
The move provided clarity on how the revised requirements would apply, particularly to students who had already started studying a foreign language in Class VI.
However, textbook availability soon became another concern. The revised Class IX curriculum introduced new NCERT textbooks, but schools did not receive all the books when the academic session began in April.
Mathematics Part I and Social Science Part I arrived later, while parents were still awaiting Part II editions by September.
Mathematics Part II was scheduled for release on September 21, while Social Science Part II was expected on September 30.
Parents had approached the Union Education Ministry and CBSE, citing difficulties in planning lessons and completing the revised syllabus without prescribed textbooks.
The three-language policy has also raised questions over language choices, students already studying foreign languages and the application of revised requirements to existing batches.
The issue had surfaced earlier. In December 2025, the CBSE Governing Body discussed the three-language formula for Classes IX-X under NCF-SE 2023 and recommended continuing the existing scheme until new textbooks became available.
NCERT said the delayed books were in the final stage of development after academic review and editing.
As the academic year progresses, students must complete their syllabus and prepare for examinations. Parents say timely textbooks, teacher preparation and adequate planning support are essential to ensure a smooth transition.
