Caretaker CM Eknath Shinde was discharged from Jupiter Hospital after a medical check-up on Tuesday. He was admitted earlier in the day due to fever and weakness. Doctors conducted tests for dengue and malaria, which returned negative. However, a dip in white blood cells left Shinde feeling weak. After being discharged, Shinde headed to his official residence, Varsha, to rest.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Shirsat confirmed that Shinde would meet Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar later in the evening. They plan to discuss key issues regarding government formation, including the number of cabinet berths and the allocation of ministerial positions. Despite Shinde’s illness, the meetings are expected to resume soon.
Shinde’s health improved enough for the discussions to continue. He was previously unable to engage in talks due to his condition. Shinde’s doctors have advised him to take rest, as the fever and throat infection took a toll on his health.
With Shinde recovering, the swearing-in ceremony set for Thursday seems likely to go ahead. However, whether he will attend remains uncertain. Shinde has not yet revealed his stance on joining the government as the deputy chief minister. His political future in the government depends on ongoing discussions with allies.
Shiv Sena leaders, including Mahendra Thorve and Bharat Gogawale, visited Shinde during his illness. They met his son, Shrikant Shinde, to inquire about his health.
Minister Shambhuraj Desai explained that Shinde’s condition was a result of continuous work and stress since becoming Chief Minister. He praised Shinde’s work ethic, acknowledging the strain it had put on his health.
CM Shinde has been pressing for the home department to be allocated to Shiv Sena, though the BJP has been reluctant to agree. Tensions also arose when BJP state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule unilaterally announced details for the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for December 5. Shiv Sena insiders objected, claiming that the BJP had not yet elected its legislature party leader, unlike Shiv Sena and NCP, who had already completed the process.
Meanwhile, Mahayuti leaders, including BJP’s Bawankule and Praveen Darekar, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Shirsat, and NCP’s Hasan Mushrif and Dhananjay Munde, visited Azad Maidan to oversee preparations for the swearing-in ceremony.
