Capital Shivers At 6.5 Degree Celcius As Temperature Dips Sharply

Delhi shivered at 6.4 degrees on Thursday as temperature plunged in the national capital leading to cold wave conditions.
As per the data shared by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature dipped sharply to 6.4 degrees Celsius at 5:30 AM in the early morning on Thursday.

The IMD forecasted a minimum temperature of 5°C and a maximum of 21°C for the day. Over the past few days, early morning temperatures ranged between 8°C and 11°C, making Thursday significantly colder.

The Meteorological Department had predicted fog as well, however, visuals from different corners of the city told the contrary story, amid the bright sun in the city. Meanwhile, the ongoing cold wave forced many homeless residents to seek refuge in night shelters.

A shelter on Lodhi Road reached full capacity as people sought warmth. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) set up 235 pagoda tents and additional night shelters at locations like AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and the Nizamuddin flyover to accommodate those in need.

The city’s air quality worsened slightly, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) touching 299 at 7 a.m., indicating “poor” conditions. An AQI between 201 and 300 is classified as “poor.”

Earlier, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) lifted Stage-III measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) after AQI levels improved. However, Stage I and Stage II measures remain in place to control pollution.
