Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin stated on Sunday that he believes the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)is simply a prelude and that the BJP would introduce legislation in the future to target those who speak various languages in each state. Referring to the BJP’s India Shining campaign ahead of the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Stalin stated that surveys at the time similarly anticipated a pro-BJP wave; moreover, the opposition was chastised for not being unified.

However, the UPA won the election and remained in power for the following ten years. The outcomes of the 2024 election will be the same as in 2004. History will repeat itself. This was the chief minister’s response when questioned about the INDIA bloc’s election prospects in the Hindi heartland.

When asked about the Centre notifying rules under the Citizenship Amendment Act and whether it was the BJP’s secret weapon, the chief minister said CAA is part of the saffron party’s divisive politics and may appear to be only against minorities now, but in the future, the BJP will introduce new laws targeting people speaking different languages in each state. CAA is only a forerunner to it. When asked if the DMK has lost leverage on the electoral bonds issue because the party is also a beneficiary of the now-defunct scheme and the BJP is using it to “deflect criticism,” Stalin said: The credentials of the BJP, which has been blaming the DMK and other parties, and whom it has pressed to mobilize election funds, are worth investigating. The BJP has been caught red-handed.
