NCCF and NAFEED to sell tomatoes at 70 rupees in Delhi
According to T. Koshy, general director of the government-backed platform, the central government will begin selling tomatoes at a discounted price of 70 rupees per kilogram through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) in Delhi today, Saturday, July 22.

According to sources, the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) were in discussions with the ONDC to implement the subsidized rate of tomatoes in the national capital.
E-commerce
At the moment, e-commerce businesses offer doorstep delivery for roughly 170–180 rupees per kg. The country as a whole, not just one particular location or geography, observed the steep increase in tomato prices. It increased to as much as $150–200 per kg in important cities.
Rates decreased from 90 rupees to 70 per KG
On July 16, 2023, the price of the tomatoes purchased by the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) was decreased to Rs. 70 per kg from the initial price of Rs. 90 per kg.
The cost of tomatoes has decreased to 120 per kg in the capital. However, the essential culinary staple can often be purchased for as much as 245 rupees per kg.
Distribution in major cities
To begin procuring tomatoes from mandis in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra for simultaneous distribution in major consumption centers where retail prices have seen the greatest increase in the past month, NCCF and NAFED followed the government’s instructions.
“Starting on July 14, 2023, tomatoes were sold in Delhi-NCR at retail prices. A total of 391 metric tonnes of tomatoes were purchased by the two agencies.” They are continuously being distributed to retail customers in important consumption hubs. Cities like Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are already in such business.
