Bulldozer Treatment: On Thursday, the government ordered bulldozers to a slum cluster in Tauru. It was because, according to officials, some of its residents were determined to have participated in rioting during the communal disturbances on July 31. As a result, about 150 immigrant families saw their shanties destroyed. On Friday afternoon in Nalhar, bulldozers also demolished five homes close to a temple in the region that served as the focal point of the altercation on July 31 during a religious procession.
According to the police, this settlement’s 14 youths engaged in stone pelting. During a press conference, Anil Vij – the state Home Minister said that no one behind the clashes would be spared. He further remarked, “Ilaj mein bulldozer bhi ek karavayi hai (bulldozer is part of the treatment).”
Encroachment on property owned by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) was given as the basis for the demolition drive when the bulldozers arrived at the slum cluster.

Families in the Tauru slum said that the demolition work started on Thursday at around 3 o’clock. Some of them claimed they had been there for up to 10 years without receiving any sort of notification. Many of the residents of the slum cluster are from West Bengal and Assam. Some of them proved their nationality by displaying their Aadhaar and PAN cards after being accused of being Bangladeshis residing illegally in India.
“We are being tortured just because we are from the minority community. Why would we be involved in pelting stones or spreading hate through videos? We are just ragpickers,” said Gulzar Alam.

He claimed to be from Assam as he dug through a pile of belongings that was laying next to him and pulled out his PAN and Aadhaar cards. “I have been living here with my family for four years,” Alam said. Another resident Hasan Ali said: “We are left with nothing – no food and no roof to sleep under in the rainy season.”
Nooral Khan, who also lives there, added, “Families from here go to Assam or West Bengal to cast votes. But the recent conditions in Nuh are scary. We feel that we can be targeted anytime.”
Friday’s news briefing with deputy commissioner Prashant Panwar and Nuh SP Narendra Singh Bijarniya revealed that some youths from the Tauru settlement had been detained for participating in rioting. “First, the entire area was encroached on and miscreants came from that side. We have proper inputs from CCTV footage, and our sources. Also, CID inputs confirmed to us that many youths of this area in Tauru were involved in stone-pelting. We have arrested some from here as well,” the SP said.
