Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati has confirmed that her party will contest the Delhi Assembly elections independently. She assured that the BSP is fully prepared to perform well in the polls, scheduled for February 5, 2025.
Taking to X, Mayawati stated, “The general election for Delhi Assembly will be held in one phase on February 5, 2025. BSP is fighting this election on its own strength with full preparation and strength. It is expected that the party will definitely perform well in this election.”
Mayawati emphasized the importance of elections in preserving democracy. She reiterated the BSP’s commitment to the welfare of marginalized communities. Moreover, she appealed to voters to resist tempting promises from other parties.
“Vote wisely and support BSP candidates who prioritize public welfare,” Mayawati urged. She also called on the Election Commission to ensure free and fair elections, free from communalism and misuse of power.
Key Political Developments Ahead Of Polls
Meanwhile, the political landscape in Delhi is heating up. Former BSP leaders Madan Mohan and Jasvir Singh Garhi recently joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
In the race for key constituencies, BJP’s Parvesh Verma will face AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi. Congress has fielded Sandeep Dikshit for the same seat. In Kalkaji, BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri will contest against Delhi CM Atishi, with Congress nominating Alka Lamba.
The Election Commission has announced that nominations will close on January 17. Scrutiny will follow on January 18, and candidates can withdraw until January 20. Vote counting will take place on February 8.
Both the BJP and Congress aim to challenge AAP, which dominated the 2020 elections by winning 62 of 70 seats.
