Prime Minister Narendra Modi displayed a friendly rapport with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday.

PM Modi, Putin and Xi smiled and shook hands while posing for the official family photograph at the SCO gathering.
The 2025 SCO Plus Summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1 captured the leaders together, including PM Modi’s embrace with Putin and his walk alongside Putin and Xi.
The friendly interaction came shortly after PM Modi welcomed visiting leaders at Bharat Mandapam ahead of the summit proceedings. He received Putin, Xi, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other leaders.
India’s 2026 BRICS Chairship carries the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’ and follows PM Modi’s vision of ‘Humanity First’, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
At the opening session on ‘Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism’, PM Modi said India had focused its chairship on connecting BRICS initiatives with ordinary citizens. He further urged members to pursue cooperation by taking all countries along and proposed a ‘BRICS Continuity and Implementation’ mechanism to ensure sustained follow-up of decisions and initiatives.
