While delivering his concluding remarks at the session on ‘Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism’, PM Modi said the declaration had established a clear direction for the grouping’s collective ambitions.
PM Modi said the summit discussions covered significant regional and international developments alongside priorities aimed at expanding cooperation among BRICS members. He described the leaders’ deliberations as meaningful and constructive, noting that the exchanges reflected different viewpoints as well as a common commitment to strengthening the grouping.
The Prime Minister said the discussions had highlighted the limitations of existing international institutions in responding to a rapidly changing global environment. He further stressed that the Global South should receive equal opportunities to participate in developing emerging technologies and establishing the rules that govern them.
“We also emphasised that the Global South must have equal participation in the making of future technology and its rules,” PM Modi said.
Earlier in the summit, PM Modi called for the Global South to shift from being a ‘rule taker’ to becoming a ‘rule-shaper’ in international affairs. He argued that developing countries frequently remain at the forefront of global crises while occupying a weaker position in international decision-making.
PM Modi proposed 10 global governance reforms and called on BRICS nations to develop them into a reform roadmap ahead of the next summit.
“Today, the Global South stands in the front row of global crises but in the back row of decision-making. We must transform this ‘pyramid of privilege’ into a ‘platform of partnership ‘ – one where every nation has a voice, every member has a stake, and the development of humanity lies at the heart of every endeavour,” he added.
