Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima in New Delhi on Sunday on the margins of the 18th BRICS Summit to review the progress of bilateral relations.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the two leaders assessed the broad-based India-Nigeria relationship and welcomed the steady advancement of cooperation in several fields. Their talks covered trade and investment, defence and security, energy partnerships, agriculture, healthcare and digital technology.

PM Modi and Vice President Shettima reaffirmed their shared resolve to further develop the India-Nigeria Strategic Partnership.

The leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments that carry significance for both countries. Their conversation included common priorities and concerns affecting nations across the Global South.

Both sides called for stronger coordination through multilateral institutions. They supported efforts to promote a more representative, inclusive and multipolar global order.

PM Modi reiterated New Delhi’s determination to strengthen its relationship with Nigeria and expand India’s engagement with Africa.

Vice President Shettima, in turn, praised India’s development experience and acknowledged its contribution to strengthening capacity and supporting economic progress in Nigeria.

The MEA said the discussions reflected the common commitment of India and Nigeria to developing a stronger and forward-looking relationship.

Both countries aim to use their expanding cooperation to support peace, prosperity and development at home while contributing to wider progress across the Global South.

The meeting reinforced India’s efforts to deepen ties with key African partners through economic, technological, energy and security cooperation.
