Delhi is preparing for heightened security and traffic restrictions as the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit approaches. Several public facilities, government offices and court services will be affected between September 11 and 13.
Visitors will not be able to access the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum or Amrit Udyan during these three days.
The Change of Guard Ceremony, which was scheduled for Saturday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Forecourt, has been called off.
The Delhi Metro Museum at Supreme Court station will remain closed over the same period.
The arrangements have led to changes in court schedules. The National Lok Adalat planned for September 12 has been moved to October 10.
Cases listed in subordinate courts for September 11 and 12 will now be taken up on September 14, as the courts will observe holidays.
The Delhi Traffic Police has asked litigants to verify revised hearing dates before travelling. Areas around Bharat Mandapam, the summit venue, will face regulated movement.
Traffic management exercises are being conducted ahead of the summit and associated events.
Officials have identified 22 diversion points and will regulate movement along more than 35 roads.
During a motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Business Forum and the leaders’ summit, restrictions were enforced between 10 AM and 3 PM.
September 11 has been declared a holiday for Central government offices following a circular from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
The Delhi government had earlier announced a holiday for its offices on the same day.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said advisories were being distributed through the Delhi Police website, social media platforms and print media. He added that traffic personnel had been instructed to assist commuters at diversion points.
