The police have successfully apprehended Saddam, the brother-in-law of Ateeq Ahmad, who had been evading capture since the Umeshpal murder case. Saddam had managed to flee to Dubai and was the subject of a one-lakh-rupee reward. However, today, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) successfully arrested him in Delhi. It was recently discovered that he had returned to India and had been hiding in Delhi, leading to the UP STF taking action to capture him.
Notably, photographs of Saddam, who is related to Ateeq Ahmad, had been circulating on social media, depicting him freely moving about in Dubai. Reports suggest that Saddam was utilizing the illegal proceeds of the Ateeq and Ashraf mafia by investing them in Dubai.
Saddam was known for arranging VVIP privileges for Ashraf while he was incarcerated in Bareilly Jail and facilitating meetings between Ashraf and contract killers. The police had been actively pursuing him for an extended period.
According to media reports, Saddam had relocated to Dubai as his new hiding place. Initially, a reward of 25,000 rupees was placed on him, which was later increased to one lakh. Saddam faced allegations of orchestrating illicit meetings between Ashraf and others within Bareilly Jail and conspiring in criminal activities such as extortion and murder in connection with the mafia.
Following the Ateeq-Ashraf murder case, he had gone into hiding, and the police had been diligently searching for him, but he had managed to elude capture entirely. Later, reports surfaced that he had left the country due to fears of a police encounter.
It’s worth noting that Saddam already had pending cases against him. In the wake of the Ateeq-Ashraf murder case, the court had issued a non-bailable warrant for his arrest. He was also involved in two ongoing cases in Bithri Chainpur and Baradari police stations. Saddam hails from the Dhoomanganj area in Prayagraj. In the Bithri Chainpur case, Police Station In-charge Anil Kumar had filed a report alleging that Saddam was conspiring to arrange meetings between Ashraf and others to carry out criminal activities. Several other individuals were also named in police reports related to this case. As of now, Saddam is in police custody.
