Uttar Pradesh Elections: BJP Reveals Seven Candidates

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has disclosed seven candidates out of a total of nine positions up for grabs. Notable nominations include:

  • Ramvir Singh Thakur – Kundarki,
  • Sanjeev Sharma – Ghaziabad,
  • Surendra Diler – Khair (SC),
  • Anujesh Yadav – Karhal,
  • Deepak Patel – Phulpur,
  • Dharmraj Nishad – Katehari, and
  • Suchismita – Mahjwan

The Karhal seat became vacant following the election of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav to the Parliament, prompting his resignation from the Assembly.

As the political dynamics shift, SP candidate Tej Pratap Singh Yadav has already submitted his nomination for the Karhal constituency, intensifying the contest.

Interestingly, the BJP has allocated the Meerapur seat to its ally, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), reflecting a cooperative approach in their electoral strategy.

Prior to the candidate announcement, Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Ministers, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, along with Sanjay Nishad, were engaged in discussions in Delhi with BJP President JP Nadda regarding the candidate selections and seat strategies.

Their meetings also underscored the party’s commitment to presenting a united front in the upcoming elections.

The bypolls in Uttar Pradesh are particularly noteworthy as they involve nine out of ten vacant Assembly seats.

The ongoing election petition in the Allahabad High Court has however postponed the highly anticipated contest for the Milkipur reserved seat.

This seat became available after the SP’s Awadhesh Prasad secured a win in the Lok Sabha elections, leaving a cloud of uncertainty as BJP’s Gorakhnath challenges the outcome of the previous election.

The vote counting is however scheduled for 23 November, coinciding with the Assembly elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra, making this a pivotal moment for the BJP as it seeks to consolidate its influence in these key states.
