The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a dominant position in Maharashtra’s latest election, surpassing the combined seat count of the entire Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. With the BJP winning 122 out of 145 contested seats, it boasts an impressive strike rate of 84%. This performance marks a decisive triumph for the party in the state.
In contrast, the MVA alliance, comprising the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) group (SHSUBT), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the Congress party, has struggled significantly in this election. The alliance collectively holds fewer seats than the BJP alone.

However, the MVA’s constituent parties, particularly the Congress and NCP, have struggled in comparison. The Congress secured just 20 out of 102 seats (a strike rate of 19.2%), while the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction achieved a mere 20.6% with 18 of 92 seats. The NCP-Samajwadi Party (NCPSP) combination, which contested 86 seats, secured only 10, marking a dismal strike rate of 11.6%.
For NCP leader Sharad Pawar, the results signal a devastating low in his political career. With only 15 seats secured so far, this marks his party’s worst-ever performance in Maharashtra’s electoral history. The NCP’s poor showing is underscored by a strike rate of just 11.6%, a far cry from previous successes under Pawar’s leadership.
The BJP’s overwhelming success reflects the party’s widespread appeal across the state, cementing its position as the dominant political force in Maharashtra. With its substantial seat count and high strike rate, the BJP has clearly emerged as the preferred choice for Maharashtra’s voters, while the MVA alliance faces a considerable setback.
As the election results continue to roll in, it’s evident that the BJP has not only outperformed its own expectations but has also decisively outpaced its rivals. With such a commanding lead, the BJP is poised to secure a stronger foothold in the state’s political landscape, while the MVA will need to reassess its strategies moving forward.
