BJP Promises Major Yamuna Revamp, Property Rights For Refugees In Delhi Manifesto

In its third manifesto for the Delhi Assembly elections, BJP Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled plans for a Sabarmati-style riverfront redevelopment for the Yamuna and a conversion of leasehold properties to freehold for partition refugees settled in Delhi. The elections are set for February 5.

Shah promised that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the BJP would deliver on all its commitments. He urged voters to trust the BJP’s “politics of performance” and ignore the opposition’s false claims.

Shah also emphasized several welfare schemes, including financial assistance for women, affordable LPG cylinders, Rs 21,000 for pregnant women, and five-month maternity leave. He reiterated promises for 50,000 new jobs for youth and 20 lakh self-employment opportunities.

The BJP also pledged a Rs 10 lakh free insurance policy for the poor, with an additional Rs 5 lakh insurance for senior citizens. In response to long-standing demands, Shah assured Pakistan refugees in Delhi that they would receive ownership rights to their properties.

The manifesto highlighted plans to set up welfare boards for domestic workers, gig economy employees, and textile workers. It also promised life insurance coverage for auto-rickshaw drivers and other groups, with an additional Rs 5 lakh accidental insurance.

Shah slammed the opposition, accusing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of corruption. He criticized Kejriwal for breaking his promises about liquor vends and for failing to address key issues like hospital bed shortages and garbage management. Shah also took aim at Kejriwal’s controversial luxury lifestyle, citing the Rs 52 crore Sheesh Mahal.

On the issue of Yamuna, Shah promised to clean the river and said even Kejriwal could come to take a dip once the work is done. He criticized Kejriwal’s leadership, accusing him of failure on multiple fronts, including job creation and combating corruption in the city.

Shah concluded by stating that the BJP’s manifesto was created after thorough consultations with over 8,000 suggestions and 12,000 meetings, focusing on Delhi’s unique needs and budget.
