Tensions flared in Bengal politics after the BJP’s state unit on Tuesday filed a complaint against a TMC councillor from Uttarpara. This was over an ‘insensitive’ post about Prime Minister Modi.
Miscreants allegedly attacked BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh in Bengal on Monday.
The attack occurred while they were distributing relief to flood-affected families.
Prime Minister Modi condemned the incident on social media, expressing concern for the leaders’ safety.

Following the Prime Minister’s social media post, TMC councillor Arnab Roy from Uttarpara Municipality commented under it, prompting strong objections from the BJP.
Local party leaders subsequently filed a complaint at the Uttarpara police station, seeking action against him for allegedly using disrespectful language toward the Prime Minister.
BJP leader Krishna Bhattacharya said that no one can speak to the Prime Minister of the country in this language.
He demanded that authorities arrest the Trinamool councillor.
Soon after the Prime Minister posted on social media, Arnab Roy, a TMC councillor from Uttarpara Municipality, commented on the post, drawing criticism from BJP leaders.
The local BJP unit lodged a police complaint at the Uttarpara station, demanding action for language they described as offensive toward the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Uttarpara City TMC president Indrajit Ghosh urged all parties to avoid making provocative remarks.
“On several occasions, even the Chief Minister has been attacked in bad language. It is also not right for the Prime Minister to directly blame the Trinamool for the incident in North Bengal. He could have called the Chief Minister instead of blaming her party,” Ghosh said.
The violent attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh occurred in Nagrakata, Jalpaiguri district.
Meanwhile, the duo was en route to distribute relief in areas hit by heavy rain and landslides.
Police have launched an investigation into the attack and the political row that followed.
