NDA Leaders Formally Elect Narendra Modi As Alliance Leader For Third Term

In order to obtain 99 seats, the Congress gave its best showing since 2009. Only 52 seats were gained by the party in 2019 (Rahul Gandhi resigned as leader), compared to just 44 in 2014.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which consists of 15 parties, on Wednesday designated Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the alliance’s head for a third consecutive term, kicking off the process of forming a new government under his direction.

“We are all proud that the NDA, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fought and prevailed in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The senior NDA leaders passed a three-paragraph Hindi resolution that stated, “We, the leaders of the NDA, unanimously elect Narendra Modi as our leader.”

The resolution emphasized the government’s commitment to helping the underprivileged, women, youth, farmers, and other disadvantaged groups in society and stated that people had witnessed the country developing in every sector over the last ten years as a result of PM Modi’s pro-people policies of the NDA government.

The three politicians who held the key to the numbers were Telugu Desam Party chairman N Chandrababu Naidu, Maharashtra chief minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde, and Bihar chief minister and leader of the Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), Nitish Kumar. There were twenty-one leaders present for the meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The TDP secured 16 Lok Sabha seats (it should be considered 18 given its partner, the Jana Sena, gained two), the JD(U), 12 and the Shiv Sena, 7. When the 37 seats are added to the BJP’s 240, the party comfortably surpasses the 272 majority threshold.

The other notable NDA partners in terms of representation are HD Deve Gowda’s Janata Dal (Secular) and Jayant Chaudhary’s Rashtriya Lok Dal, both with two MPs apiece, and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (RV), with five MPs.

Hours after PM Modi formally submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu and informed him of the Union Cabinet’s decision to dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha, the NDA meeting has taken place. Accepting PM Modi’s resignation, President Murmu asked him to stay in his position till a new government was constituted.

Discussions from the NDA Meeting held at PM’s residence:

All leaders congratulated PM for his leadership and the strides our nation has made under him. They appreciated PM’s hardworking and efforts in nation building

NDA partners said that the PM has a clear vision for Viksit Bharat and they are partners in this goal

They lauded the PM’s role in increasing India’s pride in the world

NDA leaders lauded PM’s efforts towards Poverty eradication and pledged to continue the good work

PM said that this was a historic mandate for 3rd consecutive government which was last received in India 60 years back
