BJP Appoints Vinod Tawde As Uttar Pradesh In-Charge Ahead Of 2027 Assembly Polls

The BJP on Tuesday appointed National General Secretary Vinod Tawde as its in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, stepping up organisational preparations ahead of the crucial 2027 Assembly elections.

Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel has been appointed as the party’s co-in-charge.

The appointments come as the BJP focuses on strengthening its organisation and social and caste equations in Uttar Pradesh.

The party is increasing the representation of non-Yadav Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and minority leaders from the state in its national organisation to broaden its support base.

Tawde brings extensive organisational and electoral experience to the role.

The BJP has relied on his experience in election strategy, alliance coordination and organisational management across several states. He served as the election in-charge for NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu during the 2022 Presidential election, coordinating with allies and political leaders across states.

In 2025, Vinod Tawde coordinated the NDA campaign for Vice-Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan.

Tawde previously handled organisational responsibilities in Haryana, where he became state in-charge in 2020.

The BJP gave him charge of Bihar in 2022, where he emerged as a key party strategist.

The party credited his role in political developments in Bihar in 2023 that led to the formation of an NDA government.

Under his organisational leadership, the NDA performed strongly in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Bihar and later secured a major victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. His appointment comes at a crucial time as the BJP prepares for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh polls, with the party, however, seeking to strengthen its organisational network and consolidate support across different social groups.
