A person in Bihar fell prey to police firing after a clash broke out in Bihar’s Kathihar during a protest against the electricity department.
Tensions erupted in the Barsoi block office premises in Bihar as an agitated mob of protesters voiced their frustration against a prolonged power cut. The situation turned violent, with people resorting to stone-pelting and vandalizing the Electricity Department’s office. According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Katihar, a person lost their life while two others sustained injuries during the incident. To disperse the crowd, the police personnel resorted to a lathi charge.

The incident drew strong reactions from political leaders, with Bihar BJP chief Samrat Choudhary alleging that people were shot during the protest. He criticized the government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, highlighting that the authorities had used force against those demanding 10 lakh government jobs previously. Now, in the wake of power-related grievances, the use of violence was yet another indication of the lack of good governance and public facilities in the state.
Union Minister Nityanand Rai also condemned the actions of the Nitish Kumar government, stating that the use of force against protesters was unacceptable. He expressed his opinion that the government had no right to remain in power due to the measures it takes when it comes to handling the situation.
