Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to Meet PM Modi in Delhi
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is set to meet PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday, as confirmed by a Senior JD(U) leader. This marks Kumar’s first visit to the national capital and his initial meeting with Modi following his decision to rejoin the NDA alliance in Bihar on January 28, leaving behind the Mahagathbandhan coalition.
The timing of the meeting is significant as it comes just five days before the scheduled trust vote for the Kumar government on February 12. Additionally, Kumar is expected to hold discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda during his visit to the capital.
In a related development, Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, both representing the BJP, met with the Prime Minister on Monday.
Sources within the JD(U) indicate that the meeting will likely cover various issues, including the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls in the state. Six Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar are set to be vacated, with elections slated for February 27. Currently, two seats belong to the JD(U), held by former party president Bashishth Narayan Singh and senior leader Aneel Hegde. Meanwhile, the RJD holds two seats, occupied by Manoj Kumar Jha and Misa Bharti. One seat is held by BJP’s Sushil Kumar Modi, while the remaining one is held by Congress’s state unit president Akhilesh Prasad Singh. Their terms are scheduled to conclude on April 2.
