Bhutan King Jigme Khesar, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay Visits Adani Group’s Khavda Project And Mundra Port

A high-level delegation from Bhutan, led by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, visited Adani Group’s infrastructure projects at Mundra and Khavda on Tuesday during their two-day visit to Gujarat. Gautam Adani expressed gratitude for their visit and praised Bhutan’s commitment to eco-friendly initiatives.

Sources said the visit aimed to explore collaboration opportunities with the Adani Group across various sectors. At Mundra, the Adani Group operates India’s largest commercial port. At Khavda, it is developing the world’s largest renewable energy park. Gautam Adani highlighted the group’s ability to execute large-scale projects. The SEZ transformed Mundra’s barren wasteland into a leading port and industrial hub.

The group is committed to green energy transformation and net-zero emissions. It is developing the world’s largest energy park at Khavda in Gujarat, transforming barren land into a clean energy hub.

Bhutan aims to leverage Adani’s expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects. Key discussion areas included hydropower, transmission lines, urban developments like Gelephu Mindfulness City, the cement industry, green hydrogen, and renewable energy.

The Adani Group signed an MoU with Druk Green Power Company (DGPC) for the 570 MW Wangchu Hydropower Project. Hydropower plays a vital role in Bhutan’s economy, contributing significantly to its GDP and export revenues. Bhutan exports much of its electricity to India, helping meet India’s energy needs.

Bhutan has significant hydropower potential, estimated at around 30,000 MW, with about 24,000 MW considered economically viable. India’s support since the 1960s has been critical to Bhutan’s hydropower sector development. The Adani Group supports neighboring countries in sustainable development efforts. Recent collaborations include a 20-year agreement with Sri Lanka for wind power stations, representing the largest foreign direct investment and power project in the island nation’s history.
