Bhubaneswar Gang Rape Case: Police Arrest Survivor’s Alleged Boyfriend, Three Others

Odisha Police arrested four accused in a gang rape and blackmail case involving an engineering student in Bhubaneswar, with all sent to judicial custody.

The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested four individuals, including the alleged boyfriend of an engineering student, in connection with a gang rape and blackmail case in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Police identified the accused as Subhankar Padhy from Balasore district, Ranjan Behera and Ratiranjan Tarai from Jajpur district, and Sipun Behera from Khordha district.

Investigators stated that both the survivor and Subhankar studied at a private engineering college.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred nearly 20 days ago after the victim visited Ranjan Behera’s rented accommodation in the Kaimatia area under the Info Valley Police Station limits.

She reportedly went there for dinner following an invitation from her boyfriend. Three of his friends were also present at the location.

The survivor alleged that she felt dizzy after consuming a soft drink and later lost consciousness.

After regaining consciousness, she discovered that the accused had sexually assaulted her. Police stated that the accused also recorded objectionable videos using mobile phones.

Investigators further revealed that Ranjan Behera allegedly used those recordings to threaten and repeatedly exploit the survivor.

Based on the complaint lodged on Tuesday, police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.

The court rejected the bail pleas of all four accused and remanded them to judicial custody.
