Voting for the 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly elections is currently underway, with 57.66% voter turnout recorded by 5 PM today.
The ongoing election has seen active participation from Delhi’s electorate, with citizens heading to polling booths across the city to cast their votes.
CMD Upendrra Rai Casts His Vote; Encourages Public Participation
Bharat Express News Network Chairman, CMD Upendrra Rai exercised his right to vote at a polling booth in the Greater Kailash area. After voting, Bharat Express CMD Rai urged the public to participate actively in the “festival of democracy.”
“I urge everyone to vote. The enthusiasm of the common people in Delhi is evident as they make their way to the nearest polling stations,” CMD Upendrra Rai said. He added, however, that if the Election Commission had not stopped the organization of the World Book Fair today, the voter turnout could have been even higher.
World Book Fair Conflict Raised By CMD Upendrra Rai
Bharat Express CMD Rai also expressed his opinion on the coinciding events of the day, specifically the closure of the World Book Fair, which he believes could have impacted voter participation.
“The World Book Fair should not have been closed today. People who came to the fair should have also been able to vote,” he stated. CMD Upendrra Rai emphasized that many international publishers, over 2,000 in total, are participating in the Book Fair. He suggested that such large events might attract people who could have been more likely to vote if the fair had continued.
Political Leaders Cast Their Votes
Notable political figures have also cast their votes for the Delhi Assembly elections. President Draupadi Murmu, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Chief Minister Atishi, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have all participated in the voting process.
Additionally, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and her daughter Priyanka Gandhi, along with her husband and son, voted as well. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrived at the polling station with his parents, with Kejriwal using a wheelchair.
As voting continues, Delhiites have shown a high level of enthusiasm for the democratic process. With voter participation expected to rise in the hours leading up to the close of polling, the capital city anticipates an active and engaged electorate.
