At the Bharat Express Urdu Conclave, “Bazm-e-Sahafat,” held in Delhi, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Syed Arshad Madani affirmed the long-standing ties of Muslims with India. Addressing a gathering of prominent figures from journalism, politics, and education, Maulana Madani expressed gratitude for the invitation and emphasized that Muslims have been part of India’s history since ancient times, contributing to its culture and unity.
“Muslims Stand as Residents of This Country”
During his speech, Maulana Madani clarified misconceptions, stating that Muslims consider India as their homeland, alongside various Hindu communities, Brahmins, and Rajputs who are also part of India’s Muslim population. He stated that India’s diverse communities include Muslims across all regions and ethnicities, reflecting the depth of Muslim roots in the country.
Ulema’s Role in India’s Independence Struggle
Maulana Madani further recounted how the Ulema (religious scholars) recognized India’s subjugation during British rule and took a stand against it. He highlighted the historical contributions of Hazrat Shah Waliullah, who was the first Ulema figure to issue a call for independence. Despite facing severe repression, Shah Waliullah laid the foundation for a movement to unite Hindus and Muslims for India’s freedom.
In closing, Maulana Madani paid tribute to the sacrifices made by Ulema and other Indian leaders who fought without personal interests to secure India’s independence. He emphasized that their sole aim was the freedom of the nation, with Ulema often sacrificing their lives, properties, and institutions for the cause.
