Festival Showcases Cultural Identity
The Bastar Pandum festival has emerged as a major platform to celebrate the unique identity of the region, drawing attention to its artistic and cultural richness while reinforcing a new narrative of change and growth.
Earlier on Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the festival at Jagdalpur, Bastar’s divisional headquarters. She said the people of Bastar live their lives as a celebration, reflecting deeply rooted cultural values.
She added that the festival offers the country and the world a glimpse of the region’s diverse tribal culture.
The President also spoke about the challenges faced by Bastar over the past four decades due to Maoism, noting that tribal communities, youth and Dalits suffered the most. She said decisive action by the Central government has helped dismantle fear, insecurity and mistrust in the region.
Governor Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu attended the inaugural ceremony.
The festival features divisional-level competitions with over 700 artists from 84 teams performing across 12 cultural disciplines, including tribal dances, handicrafts, music and traditional cuisine.
