Baby Care Child Hospital Fire Case: Court Remands Accused to Police Custody for 3 Days, Next Appearance on May 30

The massive fire broke out at Baby Care New Born Child Hospital in Vivek Vihar, East Delhi, on Saturday night. Investigations revealed that the hospital’s operating license had expired and it lacked a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department.

Karkardooma Court has remanded the doctor on duty and the hospital owner to police custody for three days following the tragic fire at Baby Care New Born Child Hospital, which resulted in the deaths of seven newborns.

7 Newborn Babies Died

The Delhi Police sought custody of the accused for interrogation purposes. The fire at the hospital led to the deaths of seven newborn babies and injuries to five others.

Police Arrest Following the Incident

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidhi Gupta Anand ordered that Dr. Naveen Khichi, the hospital owner, and Dr. Akash, who was on duty during the fire, be held in police custody until May 30. The accused are scheduled to appear in court again on May 30 at 2 PM. The arrests of both doctors were made on Sunday.

A case has been registered at the Vivek Vihar police station under IPC sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304A (causing death by negligence), 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).
