The initial phase of the Ayodhya Dham railway station’s redevelopment, costing around Rs 240 crore, features a new station building adjacent to the existing structure. Managed by RITES, a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, this project commenced a couple of years ago.
The Ayodhya Dham railway station building spans three floors: ground, mezzanine, and first, adorned with ‘shikhar’ structures at the corners overlooking the railway tracks and chhatri-style elements on its frontage.
According to a RITES official quoted by PTI, the station’s rooftop resembles a majestic ‘mukut’ while a wall below portrays a bow, symbolizing Ayodhya’s profound link to Lord Ram.
Indian Railways reports that the three-story modern structure at Ayodhya Dham railway station boasts contemporary amenities like food plazas, waiting halls on multiple levels, cloak rooms, child care facilities, and shops catering to religious needs.
Moreover, Ayodhya Dham railway station boasts elevators, escalators, restrooms, and a tourist information center for passenger convenience. The station features a designated taxi area and an expanded platform.
Aligned with Indian Railways’ trend of airport-style station renovations, Ayodhya Dham station mirrors this approach with distinct arrival and departure sections. The freshly redesigned station spans 140m x 32.6m, emphasizing its airport-inspired layout, offering passengers separate zones akin to airports for arrivals and departures.
