Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi took oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday. Lt Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena administered the oath of office and secrecy to Atishi and her cabinet at the Raj Niwas. Atishi is the third woman and the youngest to become Delhi’s Chief Minister, following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation after his bail in the liquor policy scam.

Before the ceremony, Atishi and her ministers met AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Atishi, who represents the Kalkaji constituency, was unanimously chosen as the new leader during a party meeting on September 17.

New Cabinet and Ministers

Apart from Atishi, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain, who were ministers in the previous Kejriwal government, were sworn in again. Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra and the only Dalit face in the new cabinet, was also appointed as a minister. One post remains vacant in the cabinet.

Before the swearing-in, Ahlawat expressed sadness over Kejriwal’s resignation but emphasized his ongoing leadership of the party.

Low-Key Ceremony Amid Transitions

The swearing-in was a modest affair, with no displays of strength or large celebrations. Atishi, a senior member of the former Kejriwal government, previously held multiple portfolios, including finance, PWD, and education. Gopal Rai, Bharadwaj, Gahlot, and Hussain also retained their former ministerial roles, managing key departments like environment, health, transport, and civil supplies.
