Prayagraj : Atiq Ahmed, a slain gangster-turned-politician, has had his property valued at almost Rs 50 crore transferred to the government, reportedly using money acquired from illegal activity.

According to District Government Advocate (Criminal) Gulab Chandra Agrahari, Atiq purchased 2.377 hectares of property in the name of a mason named Hoobalal using criminal proceeds. While registering the land in the name of Hoobalal, Atiq stated that if necessary, he would have the land registered in his name.

Agrahari stated that the Police Commissioner Court attached this property under Section 14 (1) of the Gangsters Act, and he was given three months to make a response. However, the party in question offered no documentation to prove ownership of the land.

He stated that following this, the Police Commissioner Court forwarded the file in this matter to the Gangster Court Prayagraj. Judge Vinod Kumar Chaurasia concluded on Tuesday that the police commissioner’s action was fair and equitable, and that the government was entitled to the property obtained.
