Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma didn’t hold back as he took a dig at Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi, likening them to “Amul Babies” during a recent interaction with reporters. Sarma remarked that the people of Assam would prefer observing wildlife in the forests over attending campaign events featuring the Gandhi siblings.
Sarcastic Jibe at Congress Leadership
Addressing reporters, CM Sarma quipped, “Why would people of Assam come to see the ‘Amul Babies’ of the Gandhi family? It would be better if he roams around in the forest and enjoys seeing different animals there.” His comments followed Priyanka Gandhi’s roadshow in support of Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi in the Jorhat constituency.
Preferential Views on Campaign Events
Sarma’s sarcasm continued as he expressed skepticism about the draw of the Gandhi family’s campaign events. “What’s the benefit of seeing the Gandhi family? They look fit for the Amul campaign, so they are Amul babies. It’s more beneficial to watch rhinos at Kaziranga than catching a glimpse of Amul babies,” he remarked.

Assessment of Public Attendance
Commenting on Priyanka Gandhi’s recent roadshow, Sarma questioned the turnout, stating, “I heard around 2,000-3,000 people gathered at Priyanka Vadra’s roadshow in Jorhat. Who will come to see Priyanka Gandhi? People will rather visit Kaziranga and watch tigers and rhinos.”
Congress’s Election Narrative
In contrast to Sarma’s remarks, Priyanka Gandhi conveyed her party’s promises and sentiments ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in Assam. She highlighted the unique cultural and historical heritage of the Northeast and criticized the BJP government’s policies, emphasizing the Congress’s commitment to addressing public concerns.
Context and Outlook for Lok Sabha Polls
With the Lok Sabha polls in Assam approaching in three phases starting April 19, political tensions are escalating.
