Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of strengthening India-China relations and resolving border tensions through dialogue. In a podcast with AI researcher Lex Fridman, PM Modi highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the two nations and stressed the need for healthy competition rather than conflict.
“For centuries, India and China have learned from each other. Our relationship should remain just as strong in the future,” PM Modi said, noting that both civilizations once accounted for over half of the world’s GDP.
PM Modi addressed the 2020 border clashes between India and China. He acknowledged the tensions but pointed to recent improvements following his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“After my meeting with President Xi, we have seen a return to normalcy at the border. We are working to restore conditions to pre-2020 levels. Trust will take time, but we are committed to dialogue,” he stated.
PM Modi stressed that India and China should avoid confrontation and focus on peaceful competition. “The 21st century is Asia’s century. India and China should compete naturally, not confrontationally,” he said.
He underlined that mutual growth and cooperation between the two Asian powers would benefit the global economy. PM Modi’s remarks reflect India’s commitment to maintaining stable relations with China while ensuring national security and economic growth.
