Art As The Voice Of The Inner Self: Sanskar Bharati Hosts Inspiring Symposium In New Delhi

At Sanskar Bharati’s central office, Kala Sankul, the monthly art symposium explored the theme ‘Inner Journey: Imagination, Art and Meditation’.

The event featured philosophical reflections, traditional music, and classical dance, highlighting Indian art as a medium of consciousness and spiritual practice.

The symposium featured Vaishali Gahlyan, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Miranda House, Delhi University, as the keynote speaker.

She emphasised that Indian art transcends visual creativity, serving as an expansion of consciousness.

Through imagination, meditation, and disciplined practice, she explained, artists undertake an inner journey, understanding themselves before expressing their experiences to society.

Drawing from Indian philosophy, she linked art to the search for the soul and Brahman, describing it as a spiritual discipline for creative minds.

Inauguration & Cultural Performances

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by chief guest Vaishali Gahlyan, symposium coordinator Shruti Sinha, co-coordinator Shri Vishwadeep, Delhi province stage art coordinator Shri Raj Upadhyay, and programme coordinator Shri Shyam Kumar.

Following the inauguration, the atmosphere resonated with a soulful Kajri performance celebrating the monsoon, led by Sneha Mukherjee and performed by Lavanya Sinha, Manya Narang, and Ruhi.

Accompanied by Shri Amit Sridhar on synthesiser and Shri Tushar Goyal on tabla, the music evoked the folk traditions of North India and the festive spirit of Hariyali Teej.

Renowned performer Neelakshi Khandkar Saxena presented a graceful Kathak recital, using rhythm, expression, and movement to depict feminine consciousness and the essence of India’s classical dance heritage.

Her performance highlighted how traditional art forms embody cultural narratives and spiritual exploration.

The symposium drew an eminent audience, including legendary Kathak guru Shri Rajendra Gangani, Pandit Chetan Joshi, and NSD Registrar Shri Pradeep Mohanty.

Scholars, researchers, artists, and Sanskar Bharati from Delhi’s cultural and educational spheres also attended, engaging in meaningful discussions on art’s role in contemporary society.

Sanskar Bharati’s monthly symposiums have evolved into a vibrant platform for presenting Indian art, culture, and philosophy in modern contexts. They emphasise art not merely as a performance but as a dialogue and spiritual practice, fostering a deeper connection between artists and society.

The event was successfully anchored by Shri Kuldeep Sharma.

Special contributions were made by tabla artist Shri Pradeep Pathak, Shraboni Saha, Garima Rani, Harshit Goyal, Saurabh, Brajesh, Shivam, Vijendra Mrityunjay, Sushank, Sakshi Sharma, Priyanka, and Kala Sankul administrator Shri Digvijay. Their efforts ensured the symposium’s seamless execution and cultural richness.
