Hyderabad: In order to provide socio-economic benefits to the oppressed classes, the Andhra Pradesh state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, resolved on Friday to conduct a thorough caste-based survey to determine the precise number of members.

State Minister of Information and Public Relations C Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna briefed media following the cabinet meeting, stating that the idea was approved only after the cabinet had deliberated extensively over the necessity of conducting a caste-based census throughout the state.

Andhra Pradesh Caste Survey would help alleviate lives of oppressed

“The chief minister observed such a comprehensive caste survey would help alleviate the lives of oppressed classes and take their social empowerment to the next level,” he said.

The poll will take into account a number of variables, including the socioeconomic situation of the population, education that emphasizes work, and the balance of castes in society. “The survey will help create a database of the weaker sections in the society, so that the government could extend its welfare schemes and other economic benefits,” Venugopala Krishna said.

The government also believed that the poll would be useful in determining which individuals were excluded from welfare program implementation. “We can plan more poverty alleviation programmes and human resources development schemes so as to remove the economic disparities in the society,” the minister said.
