Just four days after the discovery of a woman’s lifeless body with numerous stab wounds in the Shakur Basti area of northwest Delhi, law enforcement has arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the murder.
The apprehended individual asserts that he and the victim were previously friends, but the woman started avoiding him. Allegedly, he lured her to a secluded location stating that he wanted to meet her for the last time and mercilessly stabbed her approximately 50 times.
The lifeless body was located near the railway tracks in Shakur Basti around 1:30 pm on January 25. After scrutinizing 100 hours of surveillance footage and conducting a meticulous inquiry, the police successfully identified the suspect. The apprehended individual, Pandav Kumar (21), a resident of Budh Vihar and a labourer by profession, was planning to flee from his rented accommodation, but law enforcement intervened in time.
DCP (Outer) Jimmy Chiram revealed that during questioning, Kumar confessed to being acquainted with the victim for the past year and a half. Their association originated in Kumar’s native village in Bihar, where the victim’s elder sister was married. Over the last few months, Kumar became suspicious that the woman was involved in multiple affairs and was purposefully neglecting him, prompting him to contemplate murder.
In preparation for his gruesome act, Kumar acquired two knives from a local vendor at Rani Bagh Market. On January 24, he invited the woman to Budh Vihar Nala, suggesting they live together in a rented space. Upon her refusal, he led her to an isolated railway yard, where he carried out the brutal stabbing. Reports indicate that every part of the victim’s body bore stab or slash marks, with her eyes gouged out as well. The police successfully thwarted Kumar’s escape plans, ensuring he faced the consequences of his heinous crime.
