Amit Shah To Unveil Projects Worth Rs 1,816 Crore For Yamuna Rejuvenation Today

On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will announce projects totalling Rs 1,816 crore in New Delhi. These initiatives form part of a ‘historic mission’ to restore and revitalise the Yamuna River.

The ambitious initiative seeks to resolve Delhi’s long-standing water and sewerage challenges while restoring the river’s ecological health and purity.

During the event, Shah will launch and lay foundation stones for several major undertakings linked to clean water supply and river restoration, forming the core of this comprehensive rejuvenation plan.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), reaffirmed that cleaning and reviving the Yamuna remains one of the foremost priorities of her government.

She further added that the state administration continues to receive unwavering support from the Central government in this effort.

CM Rekha Gupta stated, “Restoring the purity of the Yamuna is a top priority of the Delhi government, which is receiving full support from the Centre.”

Projects to Address Pollution at Its Source

According to the official release, the new projects will address pollution at its source by overhauling the city’s water and sewerage infrastructure.

Key measures include the construction and upgradation of sewage treatment plants (STPs) and sewer networks to ensure that untreated waste no longer enters the Yamuna.

CM Gupta stated that the officials are installing sewage treatment plants along 22 major drains across Delhi to stop untreated wastewater from flowing directly into the Yamuna.

The treated water from these plants will flow into the Yamuna, which will substantially cut pollution levels and enhance water quality over time.

The Chief Minister reiterated her administration’s commitment to achieving a clean and revitalised Yamuna, a central pledge of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its Assembly election manifesto earlier this year.

The Delhi CM further asserted, “The Delhi government is determined to make the Yamuna pollution-free, clean, and revitalised, as promised by the BJP in its manifesto for the Assembly polls in February this year.”

Urging residents to take part in the clean-up campaign, she emphasised that the initiative’s success relies heavily on public cooperation.
