Amit Shah is set for an intensive campaign schedule in West Bengal on Monday. He will hold five consecutive programmes as the state heads into the crucial two-phase Assembly elections.
The Minister will begin the day with two public meetings in Birbhum district: first at Sainthia at noon, followed by Khayrasole at 1:15 PM.
Later, at 2:35 PM, Shah will address another gathering in Raniganj in the West Burdwan district.
At 4 PM, the Minister will participate in a roadshow in Durgapur, also located in West Burdwan. His engagements will conclude with an organisational meeting in Durgapur at 8 PM, which he will chair.
Amit Shah’s packed itinerary coincides with a significant hearing in the Supreme Court of India. The hearing concerns the recently concluded Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.
The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, is expected to decide whether 27 lakh deleted names can be restored for voting in the upcoming phases on April 23 and April 29. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM.
With the voters’ list already frozen by the Election Commission of India, no new inclusions are permitted unless directed by the court.
Nineteen Appellate Tribunals have been established across West Bengal to review the 27 lakh deletion cases. Whether individuals cleared by these tribunals will be allowed to vote will ultimately depend on the Supreme Court’s ruling.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will address three rallies at:
- Suri in Birbhum district,
- Ausgram in East Burdwan, and
- Durgapur in East Burdwan
Abhishek Banerjee, General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, is scheduled to hold rallies in Karimpur and Ranaghat in Nadia district. He will also hold a rally in Baduria in North 24 Parganas.
