Amit Shah Says ABVP’s Odisha Poll Victory Reflects Youth Support For ‘Nation First’

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday congratulated the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on its victory in Odisha’s student union elections. He said the results showed that the country’s youth supported the ‘Nation First’ ideology.

In a post on X, Shah highlighted ABVP’s victories in 13 universities across Odisha. He linked the results to the organisation’s performances at Panjab University and Delhi University.

Shah said the victories reflected young people’s support for nationalism rather than forces that, according to him, spread falsehoods, confusion and chaos.

Earlier on Friday, BJP president Nitin Nabin congratulated the winning ABVP candidates and the organisation’s workers. He said the results demonstrated the youth’s faith in nationalism and national interests.

Nabin described the outcome as a rejection of what he called the politics of anarchy. He added that young Indians, inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s ideals, were working towards nation-building and the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Odisha held the student union elections on October 15, ending an eight-year gap. Polling took place across 337 higher education institutions in the state.

The elections recorded an overall voter turnout of 56 per cent. According to the available data, 3,610 candidates won across the institutions. Colleges accounted for 3,453 winners, while universities accounted for 157.
