Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday paid tribute to freedom fighter Vasudev Balwant Phadke on his birth anniversary, remembering his role in India’s armed revolutionary movement and his commitment to the country’s independence.
In a post on X, Shah described Phadke as the father of India’s armed revolution and an inspiration to generations of revolutionaries. He further said the freedom fighter placed the independence of the motherland and the self-respect of its people above everything else.
Shah highlighted Phadke’s efforts to unite young people from different communities and social backgrounds and mobilise them for the struggle against British rule.
The Home Minister recalled Phadke’s contribution to social welfare, particularly his assistance to famine-affected people.
Shah further noted that the revolutionary established the Aikya Vardhini Sabha to promote education and awareness among young people.
Describing Phadke’s life as an example of service, compassion and patriotism, Shah said his legacy continued to inspire those who placed the nation above personal interests.

Vasudev Balwant Phadke is remembered for organising armed resistance against British rule and mobilising people from different sections of society for India’s freedom struggle. His revolutionary activities and social initiatives made him a prominent figure in the early resistance against colonial rule.
Shah offered his humble homage to Phadke, highlighting his contributions to India’s independence movement and his enduring commitment to the principle of ‘Nation First’.
