Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stressed national unity, social harmony and self-reliance at a programme marking the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Delhi.
Organised by Bharat Bharati Delhi at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Women’s College in Punjabi Bagh, the event saw over 1,200 participants from different states and 40 ex-servicemen attend.
Participants wore traditional state attire, reflecting India’s cultural diversity and the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
The programme opened with a ceremonial lamp lighting and Vande Mataram, while NCC cadets presented a guard of honour to the Defence Minister.
Rajnath Singh said Patel’s vision of unity encompassed social harmony, equality and mutual respect, beyond the integration of princely states. He said Patel worked to unite people across religious and caste divisions.
Singh said Patel’s principles reflected the government’s commitment to Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with promoting Patel’s legacy through the Statue of Unity and National Unity Day.
The Defence Minister highlighted India’s defence manufacturing growth under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, noting that the country now exports equipment to more than 100 countries. He called for greater private sector participation in strengthening domestic manufacturing.
On democracy, Singh said citizens had the right to seek a change in government, but violence and disorder were unacceptable. He urged people to place national interest above all else.
Bharat Bharati National Executive President Vinay Bhai Patale, RSS Delhi Prant Sanghchalak Dr Anil Agrawal, West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Delhi MLA Kailash Gangwal were among those present.
The event featured discussions on national security, social harmony and nation-building, cultural performances and a youth interaction. It concluded with the national anthem and a community meal.
