Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the prestigious President’s Colour to Chandigarh Police during its 60th Raising Day celebrations on Sunday. He also reviewed the ceremonial parade and praised the force for its six decades of dedicated service, commitment and public safety efforts.
Addressing the gathering, Shah described the honour as recognition of the force’s contribution since its establishment in 1966.
He paid tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty and congratulated the force for its role in strengthening policing in the country.
Highlighting its operational efficiency, the Home Minister said Chandigarh Police ranked second nationally in prompt action and response time.
He expressed confidence that the induction of 141 new vehicles would strengthen its emergency response capabilities and help it secure the top position next year.
Recalling Chandigarh’s experience during the period of terrorism, Shah praised police personnel for displaying courage and dedication in maintaining peace and security in the city and surrounding areas.
He also appreciated the force’s citizen-centric initiatives, particularly its use of mobile applications and technology-driven services that allow residents to access police assistance without visiting police stations.
Shah praised Chandigarh’s traffic management, noting its high vehicle ownership and quick emergency response, with police personnel reaching incident sites within four minutes.
He highlighted the city’s 85 per cent conviction rate within 140 days under the new criminal laws, saying their effective implementation would speed up justice delivery.
He also expressed confidence that Chandigarh would become India’s first drug-free region and that its police would soon top the national response-time rankings.
