Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday paid tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty at the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, on Police Commemoration Day. He also flagged off a motorcycle rally as part of a nationwide campaign against drugs.

Around 90 police riders from states and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, are participating in the rally.

Personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Border Security Force (BSF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and National Security Guard (NSG) have also joined the initiative, alongside other central police organisations.

CRPF Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh briefed Shah about the rally, which forms part of the nationwide ‘Fight Against Drugs’ campaign.

Police riders from across the country will converge at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat to participate in the Ekta Parade on October 31.

Before the event, Shah paid tribute to police martyrs in a post on X, saluting their sacrifice and thanking personnel for protecting citizens and safeguarding the country’s honour.

The National Police Memorial hosted the main event, featuring a joint parade by the Central Armed Police Forces and Delhi Police. The Shahid Pushtika Rakshak Toli also paid tribute to fallen personnel.

Police Commemoration Day marks the sacrifice of 10 policemen killed by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, on October 21, 1959. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the memorial to the nation in 2018.

From October 22 to 30, the memorial will host rallies, blood donation camps, police band performances, competitions and events honouring martyrs’ families.
