Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to Raja Ram Mohan Roy on his birth anniversary, stating that the reformer’s ideologies and principles would continue to illuminate the path of nation-building and social awakening in India.
Shah described him as a visionary who laid the intellectual foundation of modern Indian society and inspired generations to pursue reform and rational thinking.
In a post shared on X, Shah highlighted Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s role as a leading figure of the Indian Renaissance and praised his efforts in confronting social evils such as superstition, blind faith and inequality. He noted that through the establishment of the Brahmo Samaj, Roy encouraged progressive thought and worked towards creating a more enlightened and equitable society.
Shah also acknowledged his contributions to language and education, which helped shape modern intellectual discourse in India.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari also paid tribute to the social reformer, recognising him as a key architect of modern India. He said Roy’s work in promoting social awareness and reform remains highly relevant even today, and his efforts continue to inspire public life and governance.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined in remembering Raja Ram Mohan Roy, describing him as a reformer who steered society from superstition towards reason and from regressive customs towards progressive consciousness.
The UP CM highlighted Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s contribution to modern education and India’s intellectual growth.

Born in 1772, Roy emerged as a leading social reformer and key figure of the Indian Renaissance.
Known as the ‘Father of Modern India’, he promoted social and educational reforms and founded the Brahmo Samaj, leaving behind a lasting legacy of rationality, equality, and progressive thought.
