Amit Shah Greets Sindhi Community On Cheti Chand; Marks Lord Jhulelal Jayanti

Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended greetings to the Sindhi community on the occasion of Cheti Chand and the birth anniversary of Jhulelal.

Taking to X, Shah posted, “Heartfelt congratulations to all sisters and brothers of the Sindhi community on the occasion of Lord Jhulelal Ji’s Jayanti and Cheti Chand festival.”

“The messages of mutual harmony that Lord Jhulelal Ji gave, placing humanity above all, will forever remain an inspiration for human society. I pray to Lord Jhulelal Ji for the welfare of all,” the post further read.

Cheti Chand marks the beginning of the lunar new year for Sindhi Hindus and is observed on the first day of the month of Chaitra.  The festival also commemorates the birth of Jhulelal, a revered spiritual figure associated with faith, resilience and communal harmony.

Communities traditionally link the occasion with the arrival of spring and celebrate it through processions, devotional rituals and community gatherings.

A key observance includes the offering of Baharana Sahib, an arrangement of symbolic items such as a lamp, fruits and a water vessel, at nearby water bodies, reflecting devotion and gratitude.

Celebrated by Sindhi communities in India and across the diaspora, Cheti Chand continues to serve as a marker of cultural identity, collective memory and shared spiritual heritage.
