During an election rally in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for implementing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, labeling it as a blunder.
Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for revoking Article 370 on August 5, 2019, and hoisting the Indian flag in Kashmir, commending him for fulfilling BJP’s promises.
Shah also hailed PM Modi for laying the foundation stone of Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, accusing the Congress of neglecting the issue for decades. He emphasized that while Congress had sidestepped the Ram Temple matter, PM Modi not only initiated its construction but also performed the ‘Pran Pratistha’ ceremony on January 22.

The mention of Nehru by Shah coincided with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s remarks, where he accused Nehru of considering the Katchatheevu island as insignificant. Jaishankar quoted Nehru’s observation from May 1961, where he expressed willingness to relinquish claim to the island, referring to it as a “nuisance.”
Shah’s criticism of Nehru is not unprecedented, as he had previously blamed Nehru for the problems in Jammu and Kashmir. Last year, Shah asserted in the Lok Sabha that Nehru’s decisions, including declaring a ceasefire during the India-Pakistan war in 1948 and taking the Kashmir dispute to the United Nations, had detrimental effects on the region.
