Union Home Minister Amit Shah conferred the President’s Colours on the Puducherry Police during a ceremonial programme in Puducherry on Sunday.
The distinction acknowledges the police force’s sustained service, professionalism and contribution to protecting the people of the Union Territory.
Shah arrived in Puducherry on Saturday night before the ceremony, prompting authorities to strengthen security arrangements throughout the city and surrounding areas.
Authorities deployed more than 1,000 personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force and Puducherry Police at key points across the Union Territory.
Security teams also stepped up vehicle inspections at border entry points and several locations within Puducherry.
Officials controlled traffic along Shah’s route from the Gorimedu border to Raj Nivas.
The administration introduced further traffic restrictions on roads linking Raj Nivas with Gorimedu and Puducherry airport on Sunday.
Officials also banned drones, unmanned aerial vehicles and other flying devices as part of the security protocol surrounding the Home Minister’s programme.
Before travelling to Puducherry, Shah completed his engagements in Maharashtra and headed to Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. He visited the historic Arunachaleswarar Temple, where temple priests welcomed him with traditional ceremonies.
The Home Minister offered prayers and participated in evening rituals dedicated to Lord Arunachaleswarar and Goddess Unnamulai Amman.
Shah also paid respects to Lord Vinayaka and accepted prasadam from temple officials.
After completing his visit, the Minister emerged from the temple complex. He then acknowledged BJP workers and members of the public gathered outside.
Shah later travelled to the Ramana Maharshi Ashram, where party workers and supporters gathered along the route to greet him. He subsequently arrived in Puducherry, where Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N Rangasamy and senior government officials welcomed him.
Acting Speaker Anbazhagan, Ministers, MPs and senior BJP leaders also greeted the Home Minister with shawls and bouquets.
