NCB operatives transported Jaffer Sadiq, purportedly the mastermind behind a recently dismantled international drug network in Delhi, to Chennai on Monday for further questioning.
Sources indicate that Sadiq was taken to the NCB’s Chennai zone headquarters in Ayapakkam for intensive interrogation. “He is expected to be escorted to various locations as part of the ongoing investigation,” the source disclosed.
After a seven-day custody granted to NCB, Sadiq was presented before a Patiala court on Saturday. Subsequently, the anti-drug agency sought an extension for another week to probe Sadiq further in Chennai. However, the court granted a three-day custody, mandating his appearance before 4 pm on Tuesday.
Recalling recent events, NCB’s recent operation included a raid on a residence in Perungudi believed to be utilized by Sadiq’s associates for packaging pseudoephedrine with ragi and cocoa powder. Additionally, shipment bills indicating numerous consignments from Tamil Nadu to Delhi were seized.
Collaborative efforts between NCB’s operational team and the Delhi police led to the discovery and arrest of three individuals at a pseudoephedrine storage facility. Following their confessions, Jaffer Sadiq was apprehended from a clandestine location.
Sadiq, previously recognized as a film producer and entrepreneur, holding a prominent position in the DMK’s NRI wing, now finds himself under public scrutiny for less favorable reasons. In a separate development, NCB’s Chennai division detained Sadanandam, a close associate of Sadiq, in Chennai.
