Air India has announced 36 additional flights between India and Europe and North America from March 19 to March 28 to meet strong travel demand amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
The airline will operate these flights on key routes connecting Delhi and Mumbai with major destinations such as London Heathrow, Toronto, Frankfurt and Zurich. The move will add over 10,000 seats, offering greater flexibility to passengers at a time when global connectivity remains disrupted.
Air India has opened bookings progressively through its website, mobile app and authorised travel agents. This follows an earlier expansion when the airline operated 78 extra flights across nine routes between March 10 and March 18.
Airlines continue to face operational challenges due to tensions in West Asia, with airspace restrictions linked to regional conflicts, including those involving Iran, forcing longer flight paths and increasing travel time.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has granted temporary relaxations in flight duty norms for long-haul operations to help carriers manage these disruptions.
IndiGo plans to operate 252 weekly flights to and from West Asia between March 16 and March 28, covering destinations such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Oman. It has temporarily suspended services to Doha, Kuwait City and Manama until March 28.
Air India said it will continue to monitor the situation and adjust operations to maintain connectivity and support passengers during this period of uncertainty.
