Afzal Ansari gets bail
The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to former BSP MP Afzal Ansari, but declined to stay his conviction in a Gangsters Act case. Afzal Ansari, the outgoing BSP MP from Ghazipur, has suffered a major setback. The Allahabad High Court has refused to stay the 4-year sentence of Afzal Ansari. The court has rejected the application of former MP Afzal Ansari. Afzal Ansari had filed an application in the High Court to retain the membership of the Lok Sabha. But the membership of Parliament will not be restored.
Afzal, the older brother of don Mukhtar Ansari, lost his eligibility to serve as an MP after being found guilty and given a four-year prison sentence as well as a rupees 1 lakh fine by a special MP-MLA court in Ghazipur. Later, he filed the current criminal appeal to contest the verdict. Earlier, it was argued on behalf of Afzal that the Gangsters Act was imposed on the basis of his alleged involvement in the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and in that case, he was acquitted. Earlier, the court had admitted the appeal filed by Afzal against the judgment of the special court by which he was convicted and sentenced in the Gangsters Act case.

Although Afzal Ansari’s hopes of getting the membership of the Lok Sabha restored now seem to be ending, Afzal Ansari has only the support of the Supreme Court left. The court granted bail to former MP Afzal Ansari on the grounds of illness and other grounds. In the gangster case, Afzal Ansari was convicted and sentenced to 4 years by the Special MP-MLA Court of Ghazipur on April 29 this year. Due to this punishment, Afzal Ansari had to go to jail and his membership of the Lok Sabha was cancelled.
The single bench of Justice Rajveer Singh has given this decision. After the completion of the hearing in this case, the court had reserved its judgment on July 12. A gangster case was registered against Purvanchal’s mafia don Mukhtar Ansari’s brother Afzal Ansari on the basis of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai’s murder case in 2005. Although Afzal Ansari and other accused in the Krishnanand Rai murder case have been acquitted in 2019 itself.
