The Adani Foundation marked National Nutrition Month in September, organizing various programs in urban slums to spread awareness about nutrition. The initiative, under Adani Wilmar’s Fortune Nutrition Project, focused on improving nutrition levels, especially for pregnant women, children, adolescents, and men. The aim was to reduce malnutrition through awareness and the promotion of locally sourced coarse grains.
Community Awareness Programs on Nutrition
Several activities, including rallies, nutrition fairs, cooking demos, and nutrition counseling, were held across slums like Nevada, Sundarpur, and others. Child Development Project Supervisor Punita Singh highlighted the nutritional benefits of dishes made from coarse grains such as ragi halwa, millet idli, and drumstick pulao. Medical professionals from Government Ayurveda College educated participants about balanced diets for children.
Focus on Adolescent Health and Hygiene
Neha Chaudhary from BHU’s Saathiya Center informed adolescent girls about menstrual hygiene and the importance of consuming iron-rich food. Nutrition Officer Mamta Yadav emphasized prenatal checkups and minimizing junk food, while ANM Anupama from the Health Department detailed the side effects of anemia and the importance of vaccines during a child’s first 1,000 days. Over 6,000 beneficiaries were reached through these programs.
